Review:

I found this book to be very interesting in the sense that it does not really fit into the category of the supernatural or of the fantasy. It is almost a genre of its own. It has aspects of a suspenseful thriller with a little bit of fantasy thrown in.
One of my favourite aspects of the book is that it features very strong female characters. The character of Hallie is very strong and not to mention stubborn. She is very determined to show not just her sister Marthe but everyone she knows that she plays an important role at the Roadstead Farm. She wants to contribute just as much as her sister does and prove that she does deserve to own half of the farm. Marthe is also a very strong character in the sense that she does not ask for help from anyone, even though perhaps she should, and she is not afraid to hold her ground against the men who come to her farm with threats of taking it from her.
I did find this book a little bit confusing. I found that it was a little bit slow in ts progression and therefore when important events did happen it caused you to pause and think about different details. Things happened far apart from each other so you needed to try and remember other events in order to make sense of the larger picture.
Again I thought this book was very interesting and unique due to its contents. The author definitely mastered the suspension aspect and created a lot of mystery and even some cause for nervousness among the readers.

If you are looking for a different kind of story then I would definitely give this a read 🙂
